FAMS employees are often more inclined to reach out to a colleague for help during times of distress. Speaking to a colleague who understands and relates to the demands of the job provides a unique bridge to available resources for FAMS employees who are seeking assistance.
The mission of the Critical Action Rapid Response Program (C.A.R.E.) is to offer non-medical assistance and support to all FAMS employees, and to their family members in times of personal need, or following critical/traumatic incidents.
The Air Marshal Association (AMA) recognizes that its members, by virtue of their profession, are exposed to situations that may create emotional trauma. The objective of the C.A.R.E. Team is to minimize such trauma and provide assistance in an attempt to facilitate recovery from traumatic events.
C.A.R.E. has two main purposes:
While C.A.R.E. offers peer support to FAMS employees during difficult times, it is not a substitute for professional counseling. The AMA has contracted with a psychologist experienced with Federal Air Marshals if immediate or emergency counseling is necessary.
The C.A.R.E. Program is confidential, and any FAMS employee can call.
